Is Seiken Densetsu 3 worth playing in 2021 if I like action rpgs? I don't want something button mashy.

I feel kind of spoiled because this was the first game I played with good comprehension. I had a NES when I was 4/5 and didn't really understand what was going on but played as much as I could. I always assumed DKC was just a regular game and didn't realize it was a top tier game with great gameplay. I only realized this at age 14 when I downloaded ZSNES and realize how many shitty games were on the SNES. I can put in DKC with any friend over and have a blast playing through it with them in 2 player mode. I can't say the same thing about a lot of recently released games. DKC was really well done and the visuals really helped it. I have a huge soft spot for 3d rendered games and I think DKC might even be the reason why. Like I said before, this was my first game I really comprehended so it set the baseline for every game I played afterwards. I constantly found myself coming back to this game and playing it just because it was fun.

Not sure if everybody else felt the same way or if the fact that I was only 5/6 had something to do with it.

The graphics in this game and the Metal Slug games impress me the most of any classic sprite art. Tales of Phantasia is a really really close second but SD3 blows me away.

Don't know if it's technically impressive but this one stuck out to me

Sprite based
Seiken Densetsu 3 -- IMO the pinnacle of RPGs for that generation. Pity that the vast majority of the English speaking world will never experience it.

honorable mention to Final Fantasy 4 for the sheer nostalgia value (FF4 was the first game that made me genuinely care about the characters)

Polygon based
I'd be lying if I said it was anything other than FF7. It's hard to overstate just how much of a jaw-dropper this game was in 1997. Though this game more than any is probably the one most responsible for the term "fandumb"
