Crash Team Racing. I was a little kid at the time and animated animals doing shenanigans was always fun. I got my brother to buy me this at a gas station for my PS2 in 2006 or 7. I have no idea why they were selling PS1 games in that year, but it was nice. One of the best purchases of my young life, brought me and my siblings some happiness.

Despite how much zoomers obsession with "Y2K" and douchey "bro culture" makes me cringe I'll answer.

Crash Team Racing was the only 4 player game my group played really, usually would do a few races and/or battles before getting to something else, which was mostly a lot of Tekken Tag Tournament but also still cycling through Marvel vs. Capcom, Street Fighter Alpha 3, or Mortal Kombat Trilogy (and a little bit of MK4, we weren't as big on that one)

NBA Jam is an example for me as well. I hate basketball but I played and had fun with it, it had a sort of clownish atmosphere where you knew it wasn't that serious/was just about fun rather than being an accurate sports simulation, so it didn't matter if you knew the rules or not

Picrel is the only fun racing game I played

I'm looking for /vr/ arcade/kart racers that have the best single-player content. Is pic related the one to beat?
