I don't understand collecting anything except games you actually like. I understand wanting a physical and authentic game as opposed to repros/flashcarts, because those feel like they hold no value. To me however it seems like these "gotta catch 'em all" collectors just want something pretty on the shelf and to roleplay as a museum owner/historian of gaming. anyways feel free to shed some light on this, I just don't entirely understand the perspective

Why is it that every game shop that sells retro games try to rip you off? I went to a shop today that had about 10 out of the 30 or so games I was looking for between Dreamcast and PS1

I know that I should have turned around when I picked up Elemental Gimmick Gear for the Dreamcast and the owner told me, "Great game 85.99"
>Broken Case
>Hand Drawn picture of "EGG"
>Scratched off 'Used' sticker

Next up, Nightmare Creatures.
"Another good choice, I'll ring you up for these two, the total comes to 196.59"

That means that Nightmare Creatures came to over 100 dollars.
Again, it was in a handrawn busted jewel case with no booklet.
