I was an N64 kid and used to cry myself to sleep every night because my friends owned a playstation and were playing genuinely good games such as Final Fantasy VIII (1999)

Objectively the greatest console of all time.

They should've called this the Hyper Famicom/NES

I don't think the N64 would have done THAT much better if it used CDs instead of cartridges.

From what I've read, Nintendo sticking with cartridges was more of a "the last straw" thing for third parties than the main reason they jumped ship to Sony. Nintendo treated third parties TERRIBLY during the NES and SNES era.
