Standards are standards true, but the D65 standard is meant for NTSC broadcasts and mastering, which you can't always expect different game consoles to respect exactly, much less developers. A lot of games look better in one color temp than another, and a nice bit of it comes down to personal preference in the end. I use 9300k for most stuff(my PC monitor doesn't even have a default D65 option) but I fully admit some games looks slightly off outside of D65.

Want to strictly follow standards? D65 all the way, but if you see 9300k and like the way it looks better, don't feel forced to stick to 6500k just for the hell of it.
9300k also seems to be nice with older monitors that may be starting to show a bit of age.

480p from the Wii will still be introducing scaling; HD WEGAs can still expect to have 2 frames of input lag on 480p signals, where 240p/480i will see 3.

Late Black XBRs can have component apparently; S-Video should be the expected best input though.

100hz refresh rate implies digital processing, or at the very least buffering, which can only introduce latency.

Some games seem to look better at 9300K than they do at 6500k; There's a thread on shmups that talks about it
I can say that Mega Man 2 isn't one of them though, if the palette's generated by FCEUGX are anything to go by.
I'd argue that it really all depends on one's lighting situation and a bit of personal taste. Or maybe my eyes are just fucked, I dunno.
Amusingly, there is no D65 preset for my Sony PCCRT; Only 9300 and 5000 with a variable option that will let you set anything from 0-100.

>>HD CRT's stretch everything to a fixed resolution, so they in a way do have a fixed resolution, usually 1920x1080i in the scaler which uses pixels.
For Sony's stuff: If it's being run through the DRC, it'll end up as 960i windowboxed in a 1080i screen. 720p gets this treatment as well. I believe; People on avsforum worked this out.
480p seems to get left alone for the most part, but still ends up with a two frame delay.

Guess I've got brain problems then.

In all seriousness though, I originally used D65 when I first got my PVM and everything just looked too yellow in tone which is why I switched over to 9300k; I have gone back and tried using it again, but it just seems a lot of the games I play look better with a cooler white point.

One game where I noticed this isn't true is Mega Man 2.

Perhaps it's from an implied color temp difference.
