>The Quest Mode doesn't really add any twist on what you're already doing.
I think it does. The tournaments make a different atmosphere. Just losing at the arcade is whatever, but going elimination point deep in a tournament against an AI you didn't struggle with before is basically the best approximation to the real life feeling you can get. The event square also has special rule tournaments. I'll concede it may not have the variety of Weapon Master's RPG elements but since VF4 tasks you with actually learning the game, and gives you all the help it can muster to do so, it ends up a much deeper and rewarding experience as a result. You have character progression in terms of stats, rank and customization items but you also progress as a player too. That some of your rewards are demonstrations from top players is also low-key genius because you getting better at the game makes you respect what the pros from 20 years ago were doing even more.

And you'll be surprised what people look for in fighting games as a single player experience, especially among people who are buying these games 5 years after their release and just want something to mash buttons on for $5, like with Samsho and SC6 on sale right now. An arcade mode and a survival mode are not enough, but Evo goes well beyond that.
