mod it to svideo if you have such an input, use rgb or convert to component if you have access to a capable display.
If you absolutely want to keep up with composite, get a 32X.

image definition. Even though the luma signal is the same, composite gets lower definition.
Rainbowing is present on almost all model 1, only later revisions (from VA5 ?) or a 32X remove it.

>Because it's old, but hey you know the quality of Genesis composite varies if you have more than one console laying around, right?
>Like one model 2 looks great (with some fuzz around the edges) and shows bright vivid colors with no rainbows while another model 2 spits out a muddy dingy signal with decent colors. You can sort of remedy this by funneling through the 32x and turning up the brightness a smidge since the add-on darkes the image. Really cleans up nicely but that's just my opinion.
Hm, yeah I heard that.

But, still, that answers only the half of the question. In picrelated, the waterfall still looks transparent, not like a bunch of vertical bars. I wanted to know what caused this blurring.

Damn, wish I could find that website. They explained exactly what caused that effect. Sorry man.

Rainbow banding is a repeated pattern of rainbow colors that tends to impose itself over everything. It's most easily noticeable with flat color backgrounds, most people tend to use one of the Sonic games to look for it.

This is a picture showing the rainbow banding on the left.

note that rainbow banding was reduced and even eliminated on later revisions and on 32x.

one way to cure it is to use a 32x, as it takes RGB signal and uses it's own high quality custom encoder.
