I like fake display filters (NTSC, scanlines, fake LCD, etc).
I prefer aspect ratio to be corrected (ie on the NES and SNES).
I prefer at least some scanlines to straight-up nearest neighbor filtering, but I get why people like that.

I have no idea why people play with HQ#X filters and such and turn games into Jackson Pollock's vomit.

You can make a case for the artists intending their art to be displayed on a TV or handheld display, on the RGB workstation monitors they drew on, or even that they really intended the game to be seen on a perfect LCD monitor.

None of them had any idea that idiots 10 years in the future would be tossing their art into the HQ#X blender. They did not at all take that into account. So, if you play with 2xSai, not only are you making the art look like shit, you're doing so in a way that the artists never could have possibly intended for you to. It'd be like taking a photograph of the Mona Lisa, making the whole thing brown, and adding a few lens flares. Then, when someone tells you you're an idiot for doing that, you say "I didn't want to look at this gay ass painting anyway, I wanted to watch The Avengers."

>Cartridges:
Carts are fine with me, but if the manual and box is there for games I want I'll definitely get.
>CDs:
Like you OP, its gotta have the case and manual for me.
>Systems:
I try to limit systems I played when I was a kid. So no Saturn, Neo Geo and the like for me.
>Variants:
Like as in games from different regions? Only for games that have cut/added content that wasn't included.
>Completionist and selective:
Same with systems, try to limit to what I played as a kid. But I do make a few exceptions though.
>Game series of choice for collecting:
Looking at Fire Emblem right now. Really wish Nintendo would release all the goodies Japan is getting.
> Systems of choice for collecting:
SNES
> Biggest pet peeve:
Seeing a common game like Super Mario Bros.3 be marked up at a ridiculous price just for the cart.
