I would say that no PS1 console is the best PS1 console to have.
I base this on 2 or 3 reasons which I'll list now:
>original PS2 has backward compatibility
With an original PS2 you'll be able to play both PS1 and PS2 games
>Original PS2 had a network adapter
In itself not really important or useful at all BUT, it allowed you to install an HDD on the PS2 which leads me to
>freemcboot/equivalents
this allowed you to save games in the hard drive and play them from there. As faras I remember there's nothing like this available for any of the PS1 consoles. Now, I'm not talking about hardware mods where you boot up a cd in the PS1 and change it mid loading to be able to play burned games, but having a console with games already inside it, a selfcontained unit that need no other physical input from the player other than turning the console on and grabbing a controller. In contrast to having to turn on your PS1 with a bootup cd, wait till it boots up the cd switching screen, changing the cd with the burned cd of the game you want to play, and THEN play the game.

As far as I know there's no way to do what I just explained for a PS2 on a PS1.
If I'm wrong please correct me and point me in the right direction.
