i really think TTYD has more backtracking
there is something else i didn't like about ttyd too: there is less SOUL in the hub town's NPC's dialogue. i've not seen many people mention this, but rogueport has a lot of 'filler' progression for NPC dialog.
what do i mean by this? well in paper mario 64, the little hub NPCs usually go through a little story arc and update you on their little life-goes-on during mario's adventure.
in ttyd, the rogueport npcs tend to just... say the same thing, except one word is changed. there's a bandit hiding in an alley talking about how he's hiding and on the run... and you BETTER not tell anyone where he is, or he'll BONK/SMACK/WALLOP/etc. you
this is a small complaint in the grand scheme of things, and really silly when you consider all the other improvements TTYD brings in to the combat system. it's just something that always bugs me whenever i try to plug through TTYD; it feels like a lot of backtracking and the NPCs of rogueport are dull as dishwater. nothing changes about them as the game goes on.

What's the best light guns to get for a Dreamcast? I remember reading the official ones don't work because of some software lock, and the Madcatz ones are an arm and a leg on ebay. What's a good cheap alternative?

What's the best light gun to get for PS1? I hear the Guncon from Namco is great, but I have a 5501 console, so how would the yellow cable work?

I will say, the new blood isn't completely comprised of faggots. Some of the 2048 mappers, the ad mortem dudes, and shitwad anon & friends are all cool dudes. As long people like them keep coming along, I'll be happy.

I remember playing Budokai 1 a lot when I first was getting into DBZ. I loaded the GameCube ISO through my hacked Wii. It was kind of a frustrating, clunky game but I still got all the characters and fucked around a decent amount with capsules and stuff. The capsule system is nice because it incentivizes the player to engage with its mechanics.
Then I got Budokai 2 used from my local video rental store that was finally giving up, got a few other games like Halo (didn't even own an original Xbox), SmackDown vs. Raw (didn't work) and Metal Gear Solid 2 (didn't really feel like playing it) and Budokai 2 ended up getting the most play. I think I played Budokai 1 more but knew 2 was the superior game. The board game thing was stupid but besides that it was a nice update to Budokai 1, I think I had recently finished watching the Buu Saga and I was prepared to be excited for stuff like Vegito and Kid Buu by then.
Finally played 3 on PS3 at some point after that and it's a mixed bag. Well mostly I don't like Dragon Rush and don't like that you can't turn it off, I would prefer matches to be more like in Budokai 2 overall, and I didn't like the guess the button type nonsense. Maybe the rock-paper-scissors shit would be better if you were playing local multiplayer against your friend all the time and could use it as an opportunity to play mindgames. I never did that so it just felt like stupid RNG bullshit.
Besides that the entire game is better. The story mode is finally cool, there's pretty much every character you'd reasonably expect, it looks great, etc. So it's the best but it's tainted by that one problem for me. I'd say Budokai 2 is better but to be perfectly honest with you I'm not the biggest fan of actually playing a game like Budokai anymore anyway.

So which system had the best chill music anyway?
I'm partial to the Saturn myself, there's something about the '90s CD sound that I always found great for relaxing.

GBA is not retro and never will be.
GameCube is not retro and never will be.
Xbox is not retro and never will be.
PS2 is not retro and never will be.
I don't care how many strawmans you have to erect and goalposts you have to move to argue otherwise, your disingenuous arguments are all in vain because nothing you say will matter. They will NEVER be retro. Ever. It's best for your mental health if you just accept it and move on. You will seethe for years. You will make thousands of shitpost GBA threads. Still nothing will change. This is a fight you cannot win. Do you know why? It's because those consoles will never be retro. No matter how long you seethe. No matter how many tears you shed. No matter how long you wait. It will never happen.

I just don't understand why zoomers come on here every night to become unreasonably upset that they aren't allowed to talk about Pokemon Emerald on one of the four video game boards on a website that isn't the only place to talk about video games on in the first place
Why are you so obsessed?

I had a GCW for years and I was very happy with it, the 350 is basically an upgrade with surprisingly better build quality, two analogs and l2/r2, and a much better screen. The rundown is that PSP emulation is outdated and a lot of emulators on Vita are terrible, and I've been extremely satisfied with pre-PS1 emulation on the GCW hardware which is identical to the 350's.

PS1 emulation is what I would call "good enough". It's good for most games, requires frameskip for others, and in general is good but not perfect. If you primarily want PS1, go out and buy a Vita, they aren't particularly expensive and they render the PSP obsolete in every way. There is no good reason to get a PSP these days unless it's maybe a PSP Go for the form factor. Plus, you can run all of the PSP's homebrew

TLDR: 350 has good buttons, a good screen, and very good emulation of NES, SNES, GB/C, GBA, and Genesis, I haven't looked into PC-E, NGPC and Wonderswan much but it also runs and a handful of other consoles. But, if your primary interest is in PS1 specifically, for a flawless experience get a Vita. The emulators for this are flat out better than the PSP's in my experience other than PS1 which will always be beaten. If you're only interested in power then go burn an enormous amount of money on a GPD-Win/Win 2 or use a controller on your phone.

Alternatively you play it THE WAY THE DEVELOPERS INTENDED which is being an eight year old in 200whatever with a GBA who's first console was an N64 and you don't even know what a Super Nintendo is, but hey here's this cool Zelda game that plays just fine, instead of a thirty-something loser screeching about how it's an inferior port in 2019 when you have many options to play the original in handheld format rather than the compromise of the time.

Dunno the exact year but the 3DS port. My first Zelda games were the Oracle games and I didn't know that LA was a thing for a long time, and when I did I couldn't find a copy in any local game stores. So I don't have the same attachment to it that a lot of people would. I mostly think the remake's art style sucks and is the worst option they could have picked and I don't want them touching the Oracle games with it with a ten foot pole. Is this important to you?

>What's the best Gameboy system?
Gameboy Advanced

>What's the best Gameboy videogame?
Hard to pick, close tie between Advance Wars and Golden Sun:TLA

>Where do you like to play your Gameboys?
A few years ago when I worked for Thomson Reuters, I'd have so little to do I'd play in the bathroom for ~45 mins at a time. I beat Advance Wars 1 & 2 (including Advanced campaign), as well as Golden Sun 1 & 2.
When it came to Advance Wars 2 and I got to the last level, I made a morning out of it; I found an image of the last level and drew up battle plans on how I was gonna beat it, then later that day (at work) I executed the plan, and it worked. Probably my most memorable day there.
Also I had a particular bathroom I went to: it was a two stall, with a handicap bathroom. I referred to it as "The House of Stone and Light"

Good timing, I just got back into playing it

>Favorite N64 game?
Super Mario 64, beats Banjo Kazooie by a thread. Both games are nearly perfect, shitty camera angles and all

>Thoughts on the controller?
I never understood the hate for it; it's quite comfortable, especially compared to all the controllers before it. The whole "THREE PRONGS TWO HANDS" argument is moot, cause you'd only either do one of the leftmost two. My old roommate is a testament to the mouth breathing retards who didn't understand this; he held the left prong while playing OoT, with his thumb stretched all the way over to the center. God I hated that guy.

>Do you have any memories of playing any N64 games with friends?
I brought it to the dorm room in college, instant friends, still my friends today. We used to bet money in super smash bros - 4 lvl 1 CPU jiggilypuffs, nothing but bombs. Good times.

>Does the N64 hold up compared to other Nintendo consoles or other consoles of it's generation?
Yeah I definitely think so, the had really good single player games (aforementioned), and your multiplayer games, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, Bad Fur Day for the adult audience, etc.

>Will N64 emulation ever be decent?
Honestly, it's good enough for me, although as the console gets older and older and scarcity begins to set in, I'd like to think that eventually a group will make it happen, especially with the SDK and Dev hardware being available.

Super Smash Bros

>latest purchase
Can't really recall - been a very long time now that I think about it, my collection's got everything I need.
>are you interested in a N64 Mini?
Personally no, but I think introducing it into the wild would be great so other people can enjoy it. I bought my N64 to college and bonded with everyone on the floor with it - got some lifetime friends and a wife outta it.
