>The game might've had better longevity if they shifted to GameCube disc rather than stripping it down to N64 cartridge.
Or it would've killed the game entirely. If they'd ported to GCN, there's the risk of 1) Shimomura's disappearance ending the project like Sakurai leaving basically did to Kirby GCN, 2) Sakurai taking over and injecting anime elements/mandates (e.g. "no humans, Meta Knight only") that no one asked for like what happened with NiDL and cutting development time from Air Ride, or 3) Development getting outright merged with Kirby GCN. I think HAL made the right call to salvage the game as a cartridge title.
>I would love for an uncut 64DD build to get leaked one day.
This I agree with. I'm more interested in that than a Mother 3 build, which I always felt was a better fit on GBA.

I recently played Ultra and then SNES back-to-back, and trust me, original is better. Artstyle is subjective - you either prefer SNES pseudo-CG or Ultra upscaled-GBA - and I won't touch obvious co-op. Main issue is that Ultra is piss-easy. I mean it: difficulty is inherently fucked. You still won't game over if you're not a beginner, but at least it doesn't feel shameful if you lose a life or few on SNES. They screwed with damage and AI too much. You're hit with higher damage more often on SNES, whereas in Ultra, I think they did Kumazaki's trick where your vitality cannot be fully depleted above a certain threshold. Bosses are slower, especially noticeable in Fatty Whale and Marx (whose original speed was repurposed for Marx Soul). They have bigger iframes but take more damage and overreact to each hit. Attack range is messed up - no reason Hammer Flip covers so much screen now. Arena gives more recovery items, Helper to Hero is fixed order and True Arena has tiny roster, making them a joke. Audio quality is awful at times - music is passable at first but by Revenge of Meta Knight and Milky Way Wishes you can tell they stopped trying. Translation is remarkably worse in places - whoever misread 2連主砲 (lit. twin/double + big gun, ie. Combo Cannon) as "Main Cannon #2" and メックアイ as "Mekkai" (literal romanization!) shouldn't do localization. Added content is basically lazy recycles and 'new' bosses are mostly 'harder' (for Ultra) versions of preexisting ones. SNES pacing is better with Milky Way Wishes/Arena as climax. Finally, "Original Movies" quality is utterly disgraceful, almost as if they had to really sugarcoat a DS remake. Only worthwhile thing Ultra gave us that was missing is Select-discarding your ability.
I can't wait for someone like Greenalink to autistically tear Ultra down piece-by-piece with no chance of recovery because its overrated reputation is built on a stack of cards.
