I played from 2013 Ruler Format - Eternal format, taking decently long breaks after DOCs, MACR and when the time rule changed.
I'm not the anon you originally replied to. But I just don't see yugioh as a kids game. It's a game marketed toward kids but properly played irl by adults or teens with rich parents. Poorfags typically weren't taken very seriously.

Popular cards from the anime are *typically* easily accessible or dirt cheap.
Pokemon does the same shit with its numerous booster packs and box sets.
The piece of yugioh media I can think of that heavily markets purchasing product is YCS streams and I'm pretty sure kids aren't tuning into ycs streams to hear an increasingly balding Jerome McHale saying shit like, "be sure to pick up the latest set for powerful cards to boost your phantom knights strategy"
Either way I don't give really a shit my issue with Pokemon is that it has become completely soulless. It would take a lot for me to ever see Konami as worse than GameFreak.
