Greasy Bastard did make maps for Duke Nukem 3D, as well as Shadow Warrior. Some of them weren't too bad, actually, but they're of course not at all on the level of what Richard Gray, or Allen H. Blum (one of the best FPS mappers to ever live) were making.

He's probably getting at how Duke Nukem 3D actually rides a very fine line of ridiculous action with lowbrow humor, and gloomy and dark "Oh god, everything is actually really fucked!"
The game actually has a kind of complex tone which isn't the easiest to pull off, Duke Nukem Forever tried to do the same thing but landed on its face.

What the hell are you talking about? Duke Nukem was always framed as a badass, the original sidescrollers outright said he was immortal, and that when you died, you weren't rewinding to beginning of the level, Duke just revived and tried again.
