How about this then?

First phase he does about 150 damage to the entire party, completely do-able since that isn't a lot of damage. Second phase he does a physical attack that does moderate damage to one person. Usually a high defense helps.

The his final phase. There are no breaks on this rape train, all he does is launch the smasher. The smasher is unaffected by physical defense or mana, you cannot reduce its damage. It can hit from 50~800 or so damage, but usually you will get hit from 400 and up. You don't know if he will act or one of your party members will act first due to his speed. Even with a dedicated healer you won't have a secure victory, especially if he outruns them and kills them, also if someone dies in battle they cannot be revived unless you have a certain monster skill which is on an undesirable monster so if someone gets taken out you are down a person for that battle thus you are lacking the fire power you need to push through.

It probably doesn't help that in the dungeon he is in there are tons of monsters per encounter, usually facing off against six or more enemies, and a lot of the monsters can easily take half of your parties HP in a single attack, and there are usually three or four of them along with other monsters in those encounters. Lucky to those who stopped at Odin, it only got worse.

The final boss battle in Final Fantasy Legend II. The music when shit got real will forever be etched into my brain as I was just sitting there in awe with the destruction the final boss just dealt to my entire party for its final phase.

The only other time you hear its music is if you pick it in the bars jukebox, it is the only time in the entire game when the boss gets a full animation on itself when it attacks.

The music goes from purely dreadful to a sound of hope breaking away through the might that has confronted you. This is probably my favorite song by Uematsu.
