I would say innovation from that 1 ebay seller, but I've gotten some conflicting reports on them.

If you really want to be absolutely sure you're getting actual S-Video and know how to solder, you could just install a standard s-video connector on the SNES itself. Combine that with any SNES AV cable and you're good to go.
