Well, Castlevania never really worked in 3D, for one.
But that aside, I enjoyed CV64. I agree with the common opinion here, atmosphere is great, the camera has some issues.
I really enjoyed the Villa and Castle Hall levels due to their survival horror elements.
The gameplay itself is actually not that bad, other than the camera issue, the controls are a lot better than many other 3D games of the time. I like how you can jump back or sideways to evade attacks. The main problem with the camera is in platforming sections. Most of the times you die in this game is by falling on pits.

I thought the nitro sequence wasn't even that bad, pretty easy once you figure what path you should take. (which isn't even a long one). However that level was long as fairly hard, but also one of my favorites.

I'd say, for the time, it's a decent action game, and as a Castlevania title is a very interesting title due to the setting and characters. But again, Castlevania doesn't work in 3D gameplay-wise. At least this was better than the new ones.
