Gears MP is fucking tense, I love the hell out of it. I really suck at the first one though.
That webm looks to be Gears 2, just on one of the original maps.
>>6785143
Gears was actually what influenced the UT3 art style, though the two games don't really play anything alike.

They play quite differently, and have pretty different level design philosophies as well.
Sure, technologically, Quake is the more advanced game, that's only obvious, but they both have their strengths.

Zoomers just have shit taste, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'd love to see a proper sequel to Quake 1 at some point. Not sure if Bethshitsda id could really pull it off, but I do have a bit of faith in them.

Are there any particular games/programs you're looking into running? I'm mostly into DOS/Win9x stuff myself, with a bit of a side interest in PowerPC Macs.

>Shambler dancing. Pretty much baiting a shambler to constantly do a melee attack by doing quick and precise forward/backward movement in front of him. Much more harder and trickier than baiting the ogres, because one wrong step and you're either zapped or gibbed by his big burly hands. Do it if there's no cover and the room you're in is small so you can't distance yourself from those big stupid carpet yetis.

>Bunnyhop if you want to outrun the vore balls and do quick turns around the corner so they explode near the wall.

Hope these helped in some way.

Flash forward a couple of decades, and pretty much all the original people are gone, except for Cloud and Willits. It's a different company today, but there's people there with drives, ambition, and pride, because once they kind of got a good idea of what they wanted to do with Doom 4, they really went for it and made sure it was polished. You don't put so much effort into optimizing your game if you're just shoving it out the door for a quick buck, there were people who really cared about making sure you could run a brand new and shiny game just fine on even mediocre computers, and have it still look good. It isn't a perfect game, but it's very impressive under the given circumstances, Doom 4 spending years in limbo and having a couple of false starts and even being started over a few times. Compare to Duke Nukem Forever, which came out just absolutely awful.

Given the focus and attention that Ranger was given for Quake Champions, and given how there's a strong direction with Doom 4 and Doom 5 for making a more fast paced action game, rather than slow and boring modern tactical military shooters with pretend realism, and some of the buzz, I could see Neo-iD actually being interested in making some kind of fast first person shooter based on the original Quake's setting, either a reboot, or a sequel. That's more than you can say for all the original guys just wanting to put it all behind them.

Just check Display Option. You want to set the decals to 0 and change the blood and such to sprites instead of particles.

Y'know what I'd like? If they ported GL Quake to modern consoles, just as a promotion piece for Quake Champions, they can sell it for like $5 or $10 dollars.

I was gonna buy the Quake bundle on Steam but found out today I'm gonna have some massive dental bills over the next couple months so that I can get my wisdom teeth removed and a molar fixed, and have thus decided to hold off on unneeded purchases.

Could somebody please do me a favor and put the needed files for Quake 1 and 2 up on Mega or where ever? (Normally I'd torrent them but the ISP at my parents' place seems to throttle them)
