I remember back when I was 7 and this first came out I couldn't get past Rhapala. Tried as hard as I could and just couldn't figure out how to proceed.
In my ignorance I listened to another guy at school who claimed he played it too. Told me if I input a code at the main map it'd let me fly over water and bypass the area.
Lying little sod.
Also told me there was a secret boss in FF7. To reach it, you had to ride a gold chocobo over a very specific point on the northern continent. Doing so would unlock a fight with Nuclear Weapon.
Too bad I didn't know what that was at that age.
