the thousands place is the series
lower numbers are earlier models. as they went forward in time ports were removed (parallel i/o to name a big one to fight piracy see >>2237513 >>2237517 for an example).
1000 series had parallel i/o, serial i/o, AV out, composite out, dc out (was a small little thing) and svideo. this is the point you wanna start. as you progress you had the 5000, 7000, and 9000 series, each series having some other port removed.
there are also variants where you have 5500 or 7702 (im not checking this one but 5500 is real) where maybe they had a bundle or some shit. then the slim model is a SCPH-110X (funny enough a DTL-H110X is a fat model with the little power adapter like the slim model. its rather amusing)

NTSC - the television broadcasting system used in North America and Japan.
PAL - the euro variation of the above

a DTL-H1003 doesnt exist. the reason is that the XXX3 models are basically NTSC-U XXX1 but modified to play certain regions. i forget the specifics because of the weirdness but yeah, while it makes sense to have a DTL-H1003, one doesnt exist.

okay, i need to make 2 posts for this total (this being the first) because 2k character cap.

so first off, ps2 and ps1 have special units. the ones listed are actual ps2-looking ones. there are PS2-TOOLs that are the dev system (or prototype i guess (same with the ps3, goddamn theyre sexy and large)) which dont look like the console you would see normally. the ps1 had boards you put in your windows 3.x/98 computer so thats really the difference between special parts.
the ps2 shit has all these variants for some reason (revisions on internal hardware, software, casing etc) but the one thing that stands out here is that they dont have the ability to play DVDs. Only CDs continuing post in a sec. at 2k mark.
