I'm not shitposting. It is truth that some people thought that way, once Quake came out some people immediatly called Duke and all other Build engine games 'shit' without even playing it, simply because they weren't "true 3D".

You can't deny this just like you can't deny SNES/Megadrive console wars. And, exactly like in the case of the SNES/MD war, the Quake vs Duke thing was a consequence of marketing (= marketing for Quake which said everywhere it could that the game was true 3D "UNLIKE SOME OTHER FPS")

I'm not trying to say this or that game is better. For all you know, I could very well say this, and still like Quake as a game, this has nothing to do with it. I'm just giving explanations on why Rides Again has always been overlooked. Are you trying to deny that a 2.5D FPS coming out in 1997 wouldn't be regarded as 'dated' due to Quake?

Have you checked out the steam workshop for this game? Most of the usermaps are total garbo but there's a few beautifully detailed, well made ones.

You know how Redneck Rampage was a pretty cool but flawed game? The flaws of the first RR are :
-some shitty enemies like the titty girls that can kill you in one hit
- all the keys look the same and are hard to spot and you can't know which locked door requiers which key
- a couple of uninspired level design in a few levels and some shitty button hunt at the end
-some glitched enemies like the dog; or the big allien daddy which shoots blue lasers which lasers can go through walls

The add-on of RR by Sunstorm was better than the original game in the regard that it took into account the game flaws; and tried to hide the flaws as much as it could.

But well, Rides Again, it fixes most of these flaws except the keys, but even then the keys aren't that much of a problem compared to the original RR; there is only maybe one stage that's not too inspired; the enemies glitchyness and AI are fixed or much better; and the level design is EVEN cooler. I mean, seriously, for example the Refinery stage in RR is some the greatest level design I've ever seen in a Build engine game; including usermade content. And the game also has some really cool stages like the ones in which you drive the motorbike (with a mounted chaingun on it) or drive the hovercraft (with mounted grenade launcher) in swamp levels.
It really is fucking cool. I'm not saying it's better than Duke3D or Blood; but it's definitly underrated considering nobody talks about this game and even among fan communities of Build engine games like the Duke3D or Blood communities, nobody seems to have played it. Pic related, the refinery stage.

Nobody understood the greatest of Redneck Rampage Rides Again and of the PC version of Powerslave (aka Exhumed); first because they were technically inferior to the Quake engine, and in the case of RR Rides Again because the first RR had tons of flaws.
RR Rides Again is so misunderstood people still think it's an add-on to the first game; which is like saying Doom 2 is an addon of Doom.

You mean Redneck Rampage? 6$ on gog with the first game + its expansion + the sequel is totally worth it.

Like I said the first game has some issues :
- issues with keys and locked doors : keys are too small, all look the same, and some of the maps have them semi-hidden so you have to pay attention to find them; locked doors aren't recognizable and when you use a key it doesn't even tell you you used one, so if you open a locked door AFTER gettnig the key you wouldn't even know it was locked ; also sometimes it can be a little hard to tell what a button does
-some enemies are a bit glitchy. The dogs behave really weird and can bite you through stuff; a type of aliens can shoot through walls from times to times; and there are some balance issue like the titty-gun attack of the vixen is really OP (make sure to use either the AK or the tit-gun itself against them).
-some levels aren't very interesting in terms of layout, mainly the "redneck town" ones.

But it still worth playing for the good levels it has. It also has great atmosphere, great graphics, great musics (even though they don't always fit the game well).
The add-on is really good. Every level is solid (nothing groundbreaking, but solid) and they often tried to reduce or hide the flaws I mentionned as well as possible.

The sequel, Rides Again In Arksansas, is FANTASTIC; very underrated, most underrated Build game alongside Powerslave/Exhumed (for its level design). They fixed most of the issues of the first game and some of the maps are some of the best stuff I've ever seen in Build like the refinery map (pic related). The bike levels are also really fun.

>but that was the sequel to Quake

I didn't play Quake until at least a decade after too. I always was more a Duke3D guy. But I did enjoy Quake and its add on a lot.

Anyway here is a screenshot of the refinery map in Redneck Rampage Rides Again In Arksansas. It's one of the best map I've ever seen in Build, period, and alone makes the game worth playing.
