First one is the best.
Huge open world, good difficulty, non-linearity, actual soul, good atmosphere.
Second one is easier, more streamlined, and has forced soul.
Third one is super-linear and its story insists upon itself.

Picrel’s encounter rate made me feel like I was getting raped on all sides, once I got to the factory level I was just done. I know you can edit it or whatever to make the encounter rate tolerable but I was too lazy to do that so I just ragequit like a faggot

What are the most non-linear retro games on consoles? I guess early Pokemon comes to mind, also Mother 1, not sure about others.

It's a good thing this game has an auto fight feature, because this is the most grindy game I've ever played in my life

First of all I'd like to say that I love this game but am I the only one who feels like it was a step down from the NES/Famicom RPGs that came before it gameplay-wise? I mean it was made after Dragon Quest 3 and you'd expect it to be at least as good but in reality it plays like it's one of the first 8 bit RPGs from 1986-1987. A fuckton of grinding and random encounters, no job/class system, nothing. Besides you always end up wondering where to go next, there is no clear direction. Why didn't they at least try to replicate DQ III or even improve on the formula?
