SNES has some nice arcade ports like Gradius III, the Parodius games, Darius Twin, Cotton 100%, Bust-A-Move, Taisen Puzzledama, Magical Drop, Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha, etc...

N64 also has some nice arcade ports, particularly the Midway and Namco compilations and Midway racers like Cruis'n USA and California Speed, plus it has Rampage. It also has Bust-A-Move 2 and '99, Taisen Puzzledama, and a Star Soldier game nobody talks about

For RPG's GameCube has Skies of Arcadia, Paper Mario TTYD, Pokemon Colosseum and XD. The best arcade game on it is probably F-Zero GX which is more or less a port of AX

>extremely limited library (no shmups, rpgs, fighting games)
It has all of those including some good exclusive ones like pic related, just not as many as other platforms. Check out KI Gold or Rakuga Kids at some point if you want a good fighter. But as always, if you don't like the N64 there's another Nintendo console called the Super Nintendo that has more games, and to some extent the GBA which is both the successor to the GBC and the SNES.

Respectfully disagree, but N64 hate is still silly to me. They were all great consoles imo, just for different reasons

There's still a bunch I need to try. Enjoyed pic related a lot though

Not that anon, it had more 2D stuff in general, if you like those kinds of games. The SEGA and Capcom stuff is better than the hidden gems imo. I think N64 and Saturn are both in a similar boat, both made by companies that did spectacular in 4th gen but neither quite as good in 5th gen.

I probably prefer Saturn over N64 but I am finding more and more solid N64 titles like pic related. Also discovering games like Earthworm Jim 3D are actually not bad.

I wouldn't go that far. There are plenty of good games on it, people just don't talk about them as much.

>>10581845
Yeah, on most systems I usually just end up rotating the same four or five games anyway. Obviously more is better, but I will take quality over quantity.

It's not bad to start with but you might be better off with something easier like Star Parodier or Cotton 100%. Or Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth on N64

This almost happened to me in Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth recently. The final boss has a surprise third phase which is timed. Super fun game though, definitely recommend

Some of them like Einhander and Radient Silvergun are console exclusives, hence this thread >>10415327 otherwise it's really down to your preference. With most games there is really negligible difference between them.

>I like the ones with odd themes like Bio-Hazard Battle and Wings of Wor. Elemental Master and Phelios is great as well.
Agreed, in fact I played Bio Hazard Battle a few months ago and found myself enjoying it a lot. One of my favorite shmups (Lords of Thunder) is also neither a space shooter nor a cute 'em up. I like it when shmups explore different themes like this. DeathSmiles is another cool one albeit borderline not /vr/. The next ones I want to try will probably be the few that made it to N64, the fact that there's only like three leads me to believe they're probably very good, especially since one of them is by Hudson Soft.

Every hear of this? It's probably the only tradition Shmup on N64, at least that I have ever seen. It actually looks really good and I would love to get a copy of it someday.
But we really could've gone for some more RPG's and Shmups, agreed even though N64 is one of my favorite consoles.

What do you guys think of this game?

I got it recently and gave it a try, and despite wanting to like it, really, really trying my heart out to bring myself to say it was worth 20$ and is a good entry in the N64 library, I just can't.

It's pretty simple why, too. Dodging anything is a pain because your 3d ship is all hitbox and explosions and bubbles are also all hitbox so you just roll over and over again and there's no point in not bombing every boss to death in under 30 seconds with all these lives that are just handed to you, because you will either end up abusing roll invulnerability to kill it anyway or end up annoyed at getting clipped by the edge of a rocket explosion on the tip of your wing and admit you made a bad purchase.

Not to mention numerous small things like bosses weaving side to side in their last form with core exposed and sometimes moving so far you can't hit them properly (goodbye chain when you're the blue ship) and the general cluttered look of some stages that can be distracting. (giant fans, grates, and pillars just blowing the fuck away like nothing at some sections doesn't help)

I'd like to hear some thoughts. Maybe I'm swinging the opposite way now and deluding myself into thinking it really is a piece of garbage, but every review I watched of it seems to have a sympathetic tone, like they wanted to like it too, it's the only shoot em up released on N64 in the west, things like that.
