>colorful
You only have 54 colors, from all over the rainbow. If you want to "tint", you end up with just a handful colors. Better to go all out and use what's there.

>bright
That would be your TV, and that the palette lacks some darker colors

>crisp
Resolution. You only have 8x8 pixels per tile, and only a couple hundred tiles on screen. So what ever you do, you must communicate it through these few pixels. And it needs to survive an RF signal

the NES palette is kind of limited. That anon was strawmanning though.

It's ugly in its palette choice. It's not ugly in its sprite work within its palette choice.

The NES can do 64 colors. Several of these are identical, which means you're down to 54 unique colors.

>So, a game like this could never be made for the NES?
Certainly not in the way it's presented. I've never seen the video, which might have even more problems (sprite count, tile count, certain types of parallax scrolling)

The NES homebrew scene is not dead.

Ooh, so you meant "palette" as a row with 4 colors from this selection? So the NES can only handle a total of 4 rows from these colors?

>how are graphics any better now?

To be fair, the NES could NOT render the color yellow. I don't miss that at all.
