without mode 7, the tiles to map (or even store on the cartridge) are very limited, so how does this affect gameplay? Well, the player can't turn the car around, but the developer also has to space the road out in such a way that no other part of road is visible from the horizon.

There wouldn't be enough cartridge space to have the adjacent twists and turns in pic related without mode 7

Silence isn't too bad once you learn how to cut the inner corners of turns and learn that L and R can shift your weight to sharpen turns

Don't be afraid to skim through the guardrails or let go of the throttle for those hairpins if you have to, with White Land II you have to

You know how when you let go of the gas and hit it again, and the machine jumps and jets forward a bit? That's for "blast turning": basically tapping the accelerator during turns. This lets you: better control your speed during a turn, and cancels out sideways sliding, since the grip is reset when the gas is pressed again

If you fuck up and lose all of your speed, blast the gas to quit sliding and bouncing around, then use a Boost if no upcoming horrible turns forbid you to, boost gives you near-instant acceleration to max speed

Now combine all that shit into your racing and have fun
