If you are asking that right now, then never.

Problem with Earthbound is that the battle mechanics in general are bland (not even the so called Territorial Oaks are a threat since you usually went at them one on one so the roll HP mechanic didn't get much emphasis until later on during standard encounters), the customization you have for your characters is just equipping items to them through their backpack and their limited inventory space that they do have (which is very annoying), with a standard character development system (experience points, levels, gaining skills at certain levels), and for most of the game a fairly linear progression without much need to even want to branch out and explore (if you can even do that for most of the game until the last handful of music notes you need).

It is a very average JRPG, though I do like some of the battle music.
