Even before Nintendo released this timeline, the Oracle games literally end with Link leaving for Hyrule on the exact same boat he's on when LA starts. The manual for LA states that Link went off to visit "other kingdoms" and was returning home when he got caught in a storm and ended up on Koholint.

The connection between LttP and the Oracle games can be argued against somewhat because of Zelda acting like she's never met Link before, but the connection between Oracles and LA is pretty clear.

Nintendo did not intend for them to be the same character until recently which is why the artstyles are different.

Skyward Sword happened first in the timeline. The events from that repeat itself throughout time with the three characters, Link, Zelda and Ganon.

It don't think it's laziness. Back in retro videogame days it didn't really matter much. I wish I didn't have to explain this on a retro board. It's kind of like how Mario doesn't need a different plot each videogame. But opinions so whatever.
