I do make an effort to play on original consoles when I can, mostly because I find myself enjoying the games more that way, but if I don't have the system nor a way to play the game on said system I'll emulate it.

>second thoughts about collecting retro games?
Sometimes. I sometimes look at my shelves and think that I could spend the the minute amount of energy it took acquiring all of it doing something else but then I realize I like what I like for a reason.

>Let's be honest it's expensive
Not really. It doesn't have to be if you don't want it to be. Some people go overboard but that's there thing. What's wrong with it if you can sustain yourself without harming others?
>huge pain in the ass to properly set up your consoles, especially if you are looking for the best possible picture
Not really if you're not a retard and are willing to compromise.
> It takes space
The horror.
> it's not something that you can show off or brag about in the real world
so? I don't do what I do for bragging rights.
> it doesn't teach you any particular skill either.
again, so? It's a leisure thing. I don't do backbreaking manual labor in my free time either.
>Most of your systems and games are collecting dust anyway.
I keep mine that are not in use in plastic bins too keep them clean (^:

Honestly I find it's just a preference thing. I'm not opposed to emulating stuff if it's more convenient but I just prefer using real hardware if I have the option. I think emulation is great for preservation and letting everyone play games in a convenient way is amazing.
It's honestly a case of "you do you" and "let bygones be bygones."

>BRO material possessions are bad mkay

>Why is that important? Curious.
Manuals and other goodies. That stuff, in my experience, hasn't been archived very well.
>what motivates you to collect plastic ?
Nothing does. It's the hardware that matters.

Whatever you say schizo. I just hate seeing perfectly fine CRTs being trashed when they could get a good home.

There was something similar to that in a game store in Olympia, Washington. I think they were just getting rid of their shovelware stuff and you could pay a dollar for at least 8 bucks worth of games from a specific console. I think I bought a PS1 bag and got Cool Boarders and this atari collection. Pretty cool deal but I don't think its a common practice.

I usually just add whatever. If I see something out in the wild via a youtube video or in these threads or whatever I'll try to snag a copy of it. As long as it's retro I don't mind uploading.
I prefer to upload "clean" copies though, so if a source port is available you can just grab the required files. Like the Doom engine IWADs or the Quake engine PAKs, but if there isn't any worthwhile port I'll just upload a GoG release or the installed game in a .7z or .zip archive.
