Yeah, that was disappointing it was removed in western verisons.

My first playthrough of 7 was only 95 hours. The game is certainly long for a Dragon Quest game, but it's not that bad and the long beginning didn't bother me so much. It was actually fun, imo. Knowing optimal class building certainly cuts down on the time, though, since my second playthrough was 72 hours.
