This is a PAL Mega Drive board with a Hitachi 68000 which is a CMOS chip. These stay at room temperature when running and are preferred by overclockers to the NMOS Motorola and Signetics CPUs which run warm.

Meh, the SNES isn't so bad. The Genesis now that's a different story... There's fucking ferrite beads and inductors everywhere and it's still a noisy mess of a board.

I don't know if it's because the SNES uses a 4layer PCB (I doubt it), but the layout is much cleaner than the Genesis.

It was called that actually.

Sega quit using "Mark" with the Saturn.

I'm planning on fitting an RGB bypass kit to my PAL VA4 Mega Drive and repurposing the (useless) ext port as a 9 pin av out with stereo sound.

Am I safe to simply remove the coupling capacitors below the port and use their pads to hook up my audio and video lines?

Pic related is the VA5/6 board where the port and caps were removed but their positions retained.
