They had that special touch that nobody else had when it came to JRPGs. Why did anyone else even try?

Back in the late 90s these guys seemed unstoppable, producing numerous successful games every year. Yet just a few years later they were forced to ask Enix to merge with them to avoid bankruptcy. Was that really because they spent all their dosh on that animated film, or were there more serious financial issues at Squaresoft that are not commonly discussed?

Why were they the only ones who thought Americans were drooling retards who couldn't tell the difference between a sausage and a cock?

wtf happened? They used to be so great. Why do they only make shitty FF titles now?

Literally every game was good, if not a masterpiece that changed my life and even influenced what I look for in a girl.

Also the Nintendo seal of quality really did mean the game was good for the most part despite the official definition.

What went wrong? Was the transition from Squaresoft to Square-Enix fueled by a merger similar to Blizzard-Activision that resulted in a noticeable drop in quality of their games?
