Why would you want to get into a dead genre that not even long-time players enjoy? There are many other genres that take far more skill and are more rewarding to play, like rhythm games, RTS, roguelikes, etc. The main strategy of shmups basically boils down to pattern memorization, which is the lowest form of skill imaginable. Even superplayers recommend that you copy off of replays in order to get gud. I'm assuming the only reason you took interest is because some e-celeb told you to, which is even worse because that means you're a zoomer who can't think for themselves and needs to be told what to believe/take interest in.
