hate me you want, but I never play SA2 for long and I don't think it's very good.
it demonstrates exactly that Sonic wasn't just about gotta go fast, but about a very elaborate and thought-through level design with a ton of ideas for every zone, where you could do 10 playthroughs and still find something new. SA2 levels just feel like some side studio tried to emulate the general Sonic design with MUH LOOP DE LOOPS and everything, but they never got what made Sonic 2 / 3&K so special.
they tried to fill that void with gimmicks, tricks, team abilities, etc., but they could never achieve the same finesse as the Genesis trilogy.
