>saves Castlevania by toning down directional whipping which was OP as fuck in IV and restricting movement during a jump
>saves Contra by getting rid of the garbage gimmick stages (worst offender being 3's)
>saves Tiny Toons by giving us a proper scotforming experience after the gimmick-ridden piece of shit that was Buster Busts Loose whilst improving upon gameplay

Fuck yes! I love the Mega Drive!

Discuss everything related to Sega's best console, the Mega Drive (aka Genesis).

If you could choose only 3 games for the system, what would they be?

For me:
>Revenge of Shinobi
>Thunder Force IV
>Contra Hard Corps

Can we have an overrated consoles general?

Britbong here. I've decided to get a Japanese Megadrive.

Can I buy a UK Megadrive power supply and use it with the Japanese Megadrive without an issue, or will I need to use the Japanese power supply with a step-down converter?

What are the best games on it that are not Sonic

Dreamcast wasn't even that great.

I'd rather have a Sega Mark VI.

Why is the Sega Megadrive sound chip vastly superior to the Super Nintendo's? Take for instance Beavis & Butthead's opening:

Real thing:

SMD version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4AHF3l1tpw

SNES version:

SNES sounds flat and pathetic, while the Megadrive's rendition is more energetic and robust. How can the SNES even compete?

So we all know that overall the SNES was a better choice at the time over the Genesis/Mega Drive.

But what were some of the games where you wished you went with Sega?

>Streets of Rage
>Shinobi

What else? Those two alone, if you weren't into JRPGs, would almost be enough to sway someone back in the day.

Looking for recommendations for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive family.

Bonus points for obscure games and great RPGs.

Please post your favorites!

The Mega Drive was often under appreciated for it's audio. How about a Mega Drive/Genesis video game music thread?

Is there anything on that can top this track?
