How do I get into this?

Is there an order to beat the levels?

The double jump is by pressing again once you reach the max height or did I misunderstood it?

I can do the double jump going up but trying it sideways not so much.

It might sound funny, but I was legitimately scared of this game. I was on the edge of my wits when I played it. The music/sounds were spooky. I remember the controls being no good.

Death doesn't screw you over, in fact you literally can not be killed off for good due to plot reasons as finally being able to die is your final reward for completing the game. When you do "die" you simply get sent back to the hub to try again. Only way to lose is by giving up. A few but importation weapons each with their own reason for existing. Learning the best item for the job can make your life easier. Dodging (funny enough which is by rolling) is pretty much your own defense. Magic exist but is extremely limited and must be earned. The ending is that basically nothing you did even mattered.

>constantly respawning enemies
>many enemies randomly respawn preventing any kind of memorization
>very limited health
>bosses can kill you in 8-4 hits
>all but 1 boss level requires you to run through a level with tons of enemies first
>most enemies in the game including bosses have momentary invincibility after taking damage
>very precise jumping required to progress in every level
>very precise jumps are often instant death for failure
>shared time limit for levels, take too long in any of the three stages and you will have to start over from the begining

the only thing you get are infinite lives and potions but if you need potions to beat stages the levels you farmed them in become unavailable after beating them.

After playing this, I realized it is pretty much Demon's Souls before Demon's Souls even existed.

>Protagonist can't die until fulfilling a certain objective
>Multiple stages you can enter whenever
>There's an overworld with a calming, ambient theme
>Each stage has a really stark, macabre setting
>You can find unique weapons throughout the stages
>All the bosses are pretty damn memorable due to the fact that they're mostly eldritch abominations

And lastly, it is hard as fuck. Really, really goddamn hard. I'm sure a lot of you here have played it, but for those who haven't, find a rom and play this game right goddamn now.
