Is Half Life 1 worth a playthough nowadays if I've never played it before?

The heavy-handed story section bits kind of turn me off (specially knowing that it's not gonna go anywhere since HL3 is a meme that is never happening), but I might be willing to stomach it if the actual gunplay and exploring is solid (I have heard milquetoast things about those by other people)
