Nah, think I'll stick with shmups.
Might even start calling them schmups like OP if that annoys you more.

Get a bell and make it white to get the megaphone that will penetrate all the pigs and skeles or green and just casual through them.

Don't get blue because there's another screen of skeles after and don't use red because you won't be able to kill all the skeles in time.

If you can't find a bell, well, you have a lot of lives, you could just keep soldiering through. You should eventually get a bell when you kill the two red enemies that appear when you respawn, I think bells appear every 10 or so red enemies that you kill.
