You have to be a certain kind of trophy hunter. Numerically, a lot of systems aren't actually that big though. Full N64 and Dreamcast sets are pretty space efficient. But to go for something like PS2 you'd have to be a madman. The NES has something like 800 games which is a lot but not unthinkably large. The PS2 has several thousand.

A complete N64 set looks pretty elegant all things considered. It's small enough to not take up stupid space and doesn't have a glut of absolute garbage like a full NES set.

These both make sense. I think people are generally reacting to OP's pic. It's not really taking into account the average person who has maybe 40-50 games total which isn't going to take up that much space at all. In fact, even a fullset of one of the less dominant consoles looks surprisingly space efficient on a bookshelf. Like I wouldn't necessarily be against aiming at something relatively compact like a full N64 or Dreamcast set. Even a US Saturn or Sega CD would be neat if it didn't cost a billion dollars.
