Is it really that bad? Everyone seems to hate this game. Personally I enjoy playing shit games so I think I'll give it a shot.

Would it be anime induced brain rot?
I tried playing picrelated many times since childhood, this game even came with like 4 disks or something, but I never got anywhere far in this game
I get it it looks nice, beautiful environments, bizarre characters, wonderful music, but the gameplay of JRPG is just dogshit, especially when they force you into combat after every few steps, which they love to do (WTF is the decision behind such design? to wear out your inventory or what? its lame anyway)
Im pretty sure its safe to say theres not a single JRPG game that wouldnt benefit from just being turned into a hack n slash with fixed cameras. Yet somehow this genre is massively popular to this day that its even a safe bet for 0 production cost indie games with trash artwork

What was the exact moment you realize this was a piece of shit?

I specifically wanted to ask this question in regards to FF9 but I can imagine there's a lot of other games worth discussing for this:

Does the remake/port of FF9 available on steam and other current platforms have any significant changes or fixes compared the PS1 release? Modability aside, I'm curious if the newer release fixes any possibly critical bugs or issues with the first verion.

I don't care for all the micro managing in this game

What retro JRPG would you say had the best story? One that kept you invested until the end and left you feeling satisfied afterward? For me I have to say FF9, but I don't actually have a ton of history with JRPG's so my options are kind of limited.

is ff9 as good as 7? just beat 7 and i'm thinking about playing another. skipping 8 because I think it seems quite gay.

Better than every other game in the FF series (procluding tactics), and one of the very few actually worth seeing through.

Let's talk about it. I've played through this have 10+ times. It is without a doubt my most played game. In fact, I was writing a sort of fan fiction about it, but it ended up turning into its own full fledgef story. I could post a chapter on pastebin, if anyone's interested.
