So do I, most of the house is tidier than that room which is mostly for storage. I keep my CRT in there because I don't actually want to get rid of it, but don't want to look at it all the time either and Saturn or DC are the only things I ever use it for anymore.

It's not that they're not typically nerdy, but I remember the days of gaming clubs in the 80's and 90's where literally everyone who went there looked like they fell out of American Movie. Those guys still go, but there's also a healthy mix of people who at least appear pretty normal on the surface.

>Either way old videogames becoming any more fashionable than they are would suck and you know it.

I actually powerfully disagree with this. I love that there are younger people now into old games. But also I am largely done with collecting. Only keep around a few things I like and emulate most of the time when actually playing.

All that said, I don't think watching kids cry about how they can't get everything they want for cheap will ever stop being funny.

That was how it started with me. Just selling the stuff I knew I wasn't going to play again. Then I just started paring back more and more until I now just have a Saturn and back up and a few interesting oddities like the Nomad. And honestly I look forward to the day when I have something that can emulate Saturn well and I can finally ditch the CRT it's hooked up to as well.

Gaiares is fucking awesome. Recommend it to everyone almost weekly.

Yeah racing games also didn't appeal for a similar reason. But I had to accept long ago that my tastes are kind of weird. I like hearing about how and why people like games that don't interest me for some reason. It's just very interesting.

Actually that's what sort of got me into shooters for the brief time I was. One of my best friends is Mormon and he went off to do a 2 year mission like they tend to do. I was afraid he'd get brainwashed so I dedicated myself to keeping him in the loop while he was away.

Shmups were one of those games he liked and I never really cared for so I decided I'd start playing through them to give us stuff to talk about. It was fun to see what he got out of them. It worked too, all these years later we're still good friends even if life means we only get together every month or two.

In the end I came away with the impression that though they're neat games and I see the appeal in a way I didn't used to, overall they're not my cup of tea. Gaiares was the one that really stood out and still a game I occasionally go back to. I think it was the weapon upgrade system that gave room for a lot of experimenting that kept it interesting. Also I fucking love this Castlevania level where you fight death.

Sure, what's your favorite Gaiares boss? Mine's Death.

Giares because the upgrade system is fun to play with, the music fucking rocks and the bosses are fun. Also this stage is like Castlevania: The Shmup which I dig.

>It's a good game, but not a flawless game.
Doesn't that describe almost any good game though?

But I guess I would have been one of "the wrong people" who liked it, because honestly a good part of the reason I tried it in the first place was that it was made by Treasure and I like a lot of their games.

But that said I've never really talked it up either. I thought it was fun, but wouldn't put it in my top 5 Treasure games or top 5 shmups. Though Gradius V probably would be. I really liked that game a lot.

It's still no Gaiares though. That's the shmup I shill when I'm shilling shmups.

>A point left untouched is that action games like this often punish you when you die by taking away all of your power-ups.

The way I look at them is as bonuses and when you die it probably means you're just going to die more before powering up again. But you do get to see what's ahead in the level and hopefully next time you make it past where you died and are a little more familiar with what's to come.

It varies by game though, one of the reasons I love Gaiares so much is that you don't just get powered up and stay there. Certain attacks are more useful in different parts of the game but switching means starting fresh again so there's a lot of risk/reward.

Most people find button games very annoying to play on a touch screen. A setup like pictured would probably work if made well.

Personally I love the way retro games look shrunk down onto a small screen.

Okay, blow was a poor choice of words. I didn't men to imply I find arcade games easy or anything. Just that usually once I'm done with them I'm done. I'm not one to go one to 1cc or so multiple loops with very rare exception. Also I haven't played Donkey Kong in over 30 years, I never liked that game. If you don't believe me I'm okay with that though. You can think whatever you want.

It does get pretty crazy at points, but it's plenty beatable and well worth mastering.

I like this meme. It's genuinely quite hard in a very good way.

My vote goes to Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. Especially the SFC version. You can game it a little and build up powerful weapons and armor over multiple playthroughs, but doing a straight run in that game is extremely difficult.

I had the opposite happen when I started selling. I took a bunch of stuff, some of which I worried I'd regret getting rid of, but I hadn't used in a while and was feeling a little poor.

Soon I noticed I didn't regret or miss any of it at all. That just opened the flood gates and I started getting rid of more and more stuff.

Now all I have left are my handhelds and the games I liked the most. Also kept the Nomad because it's small and a neat novelty, but only a handful of games because I play Genesis on PSP mostly these days anyways.

Just hide and report troll post and move along. It's the best way by far around here.

You made a good purchase! Truxton is a pretty great little game. It sometimes gets some shit because it doesn't really do anything special or unique, but for just a straight old arcade style shoot 'em up it's solid and a lot of fun.

As for myself, I've been trying to actually get good at Gaiares. It's super fun and the weapon system kicks ass, almost like Kirby mixed with a shooter. But fuck is is hard!

Also, this stage...
>Flying through a space castle
>Javelins shooting out of the floor
>Spiked balls flying all over the place
>Guillotines!?!
>Fucking Death shows up and starts spamming sicles

Am I playing a shmup or Castlevania?
