Imagine if you could chuck all of that in storage, and have one box under your TV that played everything with a degree of verisimilitude such that even speedrunners can't tell the difference in blinded trials.
No swapping carts, no fiddling with cables, everything boots almost instantly and looks/plays great.

It's funny, because I waited until now to get on the RPi train. Found a local store that sells them at RRP, so I bought a Pi 400 which I've got plugged into a repurposed iPad screen, making a little coffee table PC, and a Pi 4b I'm using to build a retroNAS so I can load games over the network to my two MiSTers.

What's the best controller for use with a MiSTer?
My reaction speed is ~230ms so while I'm sensitive to the lag a flatscreen TV introduces the input delay from bluetooth doesn't bother me.

Would a Wii U Pro Controller + 8bitdo adapter be a good one-size-fits-most solution?
