SH1 still keeps you in the dark, at the end you feel like you kinda understand what's happening, but it's still very easy to ask something that you couldn't answer, because so much about Alessa, Dahlia and Kaufmann is left ambiguous. This is why I don't like that SH3 and Origins aimed to explore the backstory of SH1, it fucks with the ambiguity that worked so well in SH1.
However, personally what I like in SH1 the most is seeing how characters deal with the town's weirdness, I find it just as interesting as the town itself (there's a reason why people remember Lisa so fondly, despite of her having barely anything to do with the cult)
