50 to make it to Dreamcast is damn fine. Missing or skippped layers in old vs new emulators is why its giving you deja vu now I'll bet.

I think growing up poor taught me to tolerate bad design in games and in general functionality for a long long time. RP3+ does have some dumb design choices that puts me in awkward handheld situations. RP3+ home button being on the right hand so I cant grip it firmly out of fear of closing the menu, turning it into a super-ignored button, volume rockers on the left hand grip side doing the same. All this because somebody out there thought the device wouldnt sell it it had those exterior buttons on the face of the handheld. There's so much empty space on the faces of these handhelds that could easily take on the buttons but theres always some nut that thinks their thumbs are going to arbitrarily rub all of the front of the handheld during gameplay and push the wrong button, this fictional scenario killing a perfect handheld with extra or menu/function buttons on the front void space.

I guess partly that, partly imitating competition, mainly the world is smaller than we think and there's only 4 factories doing generic production runs of the boards and chips without doing any basic design principles for how its going to work in the day to day, or if they did, they figured out it would be too expensive to make more rational choices on button placement. Someone else ITT pointed out the start/select being this weird reach above and around the trigger motion and I noticed it happening for me too. Im babying the RP3+ so I havent even messed with the OS yet, Retroid Pocket 3 in default wont let you change layout on a per-game-basis in some consoles so its a lot of muscle memory on ignoring on-screen prompts to press the opposite buttons on the handheld itself. I dont think they'll ever make handhelds for people as picky as me, but this one's close enough for the price.
