ALTTP is fine.
The clones isn't. ALTTP by design only forces you to swap items maybe each 2-3 rooms, and enables you to get by with just Sword and Shield as a result.

Something like Oceanhorn or Baldo plays a lot worse, because they don't understand how bad it is to menu for basic inputs, instead of adding another quickslot.
Baldo is seriously worth mentioning for the sake of comparison, because its the straightest ALTTP clone I have fucked touched ,but it lacks the polish to give its great ideas true life.
