It took some weird liberties with the source material, like pretty much any other western adaptation of a Japanese video game. Most of the enemy characters, who were just thugs in the original game, became freaks of nature like Thugs McGraw (a fat mook who was turned into a two-headed freak) and Swamp Gas Charlie (who went from being a mere dog tamer to some kind of Darth Vader-like dude). Oddly enough, the two weirdest characters in the game, Gordon's twin cyborg bodyguards, became the most normal bad guys in the comic (they were turned into Gordon's stepsons).
