Sup. Don't worry about rank at all in Psikyo, yes it goes down when you die but you can't do anything to prevent it from getting high otherwise.
To get started try to beat the first loop of Sengoku Ace without continuing. Then you can either attempt two loops in that game or move on to a different Psikyo game.

The speed difference doesn't matter, you deal with the pattern the same way. Learn the fastest version and you can deal with the slower ones if you've died.
