The way the Sega CD/32x thing had played out to that point really had/me sour. With the price of it and then of the TGCD I thought maybe video gaming just wasn't going to be worth it any more (like computer gaming always had) to a semi-poor person like myself then the Jaguar being so lame and CDi and 3DO bring SO expensive for what they offered seemed to confirm it. Playstation and Saturn were getting a lot of hype of course but so did Jag so I didn't really sit down and play PSX until early '96 when I was over at a friend's house playing MTG then hung around after and checked out Destruction Derby (meh) and Twisted Metal which really impressed me. It wasn't until that winter that I convinced my friend who was my gf's and my roommate to buy "himself" one for Christmas along with TR and RE which blew me away and brought me completely back into the fold.

Last gen games like DKC that were still releasing at like $60 were honestly completely off my radar in '95. I was an edgy teen then and I definitely was hating on its kiddiness plus I was aware that it was only fake 3D.

/blog - but I WAS asked.

In which we create fictional accounts of how /vr/ vidya affected our lives in non-existent ways that never happened for fun, lulz and (you)'s.

Optionally you can tell a true story instead.

>Be me now
>My own house
>2 fun cars
>60" plasma TV
>All da games
>Great wife and kid

>Be me playing Final Fantasy 7
>My own apartment
>Parents & grandma still alive
>Just broke up with fat chick for hot nerd bird
>Job at Babbage's
>Smoke weed erryday
>Drunk D&D or MTG every night
>Sometimes play Super Mario All Stars or Capcom Legends and get nostalgic for being a kid

You guys who are young adults now, don't worry. You'll get to a place where you're comfortable to live the rest of your life sooner or later based on shit you're learning now but you should also realize that right now you have the opportunities to make memories of things you have the freedom to do now that you won't have then. Make them. Trust Old Man /vr/ on this one.

Basically I think OP is talking about how he belongs here with us oldfags. I'm perfectly happy sharing /vr/ with people like him and enjoy showing him all the goid shit that he missed out on and was never ported (yet)

Ah yes the local arcade, I'll always remember the saturday killer instinct tournaments, the discussion pit about how to get past a game and of course the trades, man we used to swap consoles and games away all the time. It's such a shame that one by one we had to move away from that place and that with us not there I found later that it got closed, I'll still remember the ninja turtles marathon in honor of the first of us to leave, spent about 50 bucks on a common pool just so we could get the game done and damn it was worth it.
In my current area there is an arcade, I've yet to get there as it is expensive and inside a mall and that keeps me out as the stench and screams are constant.
But it makes me wonder, if there's a group in there like the one I had or if I would meet people my age like those of my old arcade.

Well, take it from an old pro there are a few ways to skin a cat but they all involve beating dudes at their own game and I'm not talking about that guy running train on The World Warrior at the arcade in the mall.

>Always be closing
Watch those Facebook groups and Craigslist like a hawk and get a reputation. If you're "the man" people will bring their shit to you over a big fat neckbeard every time
>The early bird gets the vidya
Get the fuck out of bed, you lazy shit. If you can't do that, then stay up all night.
>Try taking a job at Gamestop
Do you have any idea how many people come into Gamestop trying to sell retro vidya only to get turned away? Be the guy that buys that shit for his personal collection
>Know your shit
If you're not looking at eBay on your phone while you're dealing then you can expect the guy you're dealing with not to either. If he seriously wants eBay prices he should sell that shit on eBay and stop wasting your time
>Spot trends and don't be afraid to get into stuff that's not (yet) retro.
You can leverage your collection to get sick deals. If your name is golden enough you can even create markets for shit that might not have otherwise existed like imports or obscure systems. Even be willing to take non-vidya related items in trade when someone wants your stuff bad enough. Guns, cars, jewelry, old AV equipment - all that kind of stuff can be flipped fast and often for big big gains to put back in your real hobby.

And the most important part? Remember to enjoy your games. If you start focusing only on swelling your collection or making money you'll lose your soul and a nerd without a soul is basically a pariah. If you start going there with it just switch to something you can actually get rich doing because collecting video games ain't it.

Don't worry about it we have stuff to teach those snarky kids that they're actually interested to learn.
