Why are there no good games besides first-party and Banjo?

What are the best four-player N64 games? Any hidden gems?

I'm having an 'N64 party' on Friday and I have an ED64 loaded with a full no-intro set, so anything goes. I already have the obvious ones planned, like Mario Party, Smash, Mario Kart, Bomberman, etc. I'm just wondering if there's anything else cool out there that I may not know about.

My brother's started to get into N64 games again lately, and is looking for a game that will last for a long time. (IE RPGs, simulators, whatever Harvest Moon is ...)

I figured you guys would be experts; do you have any suggestions?

I've heard a lot of good thing about SCART/RGB for old consoles for use with either CRT's or HDTV's. Either way I don't really have any soldering skills, but I do want to have a RGB 64 for the hell of it.

Is it better to risk attempting something I never did, damaging my system, or paying a bit more out of pocket to get a premade one?

Because there's not a plain N64 general in the catalog right now.
