I'd say you try to get some balance, she's more grumpy old lady when she speaks with other characters such as Linlin, when she patronizes her and Yuan Fan since she calls him an idiot all the time, though now that I think about it she does call everyone idiot...
She gets the smoking granny part later in the game though, around the time you can recruit her and the final battle draws near iirc.
But yeah, it's hard, she reminds me a lot of the classic landlady/Okami stereotype.

I'm working on an extensive FAQ for beginners to put in the OP but it won't be ready until Tomorrow, I had less free time than I'd thought these days.

I mainly explained general mechanics such as Sparking, Battle Rank and how stats and Waza/Magic work in the game.
I also added info on unique maingame mechanics such as Reels, how Monster symbols and families work and general progression in the game.

I think it's shaping up well, tomorrow you'll be able to read it and give me suggestions on things to fix or add.
