LoL's battle system is fairly unique to it, I don't know of any other games that did anything similar, or what you would call it (the japanese tend to give battle systems unique names like Hyper Transgression System or some bullshit). Xenogears and Valkyrie Profile(s) allowed you to string combos together, with VP doing it in real time. Tales and Star Ocean games too, now that I think about it.

The Mario RPG games were all about the "timed hits", basically inventing that particular battle system. So everything after that had something like timed hits was referred to as "Mario RPG-like" or "Paper Mario-like".
