Yeah the whole WASD+mouse setup wasn't exactly standardized before the 2000's. If you look back at the keybind layouts and joystick solutions being used during the 80s and 90s you'd be scratching your head wondering how the hell they even came up with such backwards ass controls, but that's how things were back then.
Pic related, you would never guess this is a controller meant for first person shooters without reading about it.
